From Middle English, from Template:Fro {{ Template:Fro/script |[[destrecier#Template:Fro|destrecier]]|face=term|lang=fro}} (to restrain, constrain, put in straits, afflict, distress) (French: [[détresse#|détresse]]), from Template:ML. as if {{la||*districtiare}}, an assumed frequentive form of [[distringere#|distringere]] (to pull asunder, stretch out), from {{la|dis-||apart}} + {{la|stringere||to draw tight, strain}}.
